Jan Atkins Interior Design is Johannesburg based and is
one of the leading Interior Design and Decorating Companies in South Africa,
specialising in Clubs, Hotels, Offices and Residential work. Over the last 14 years, Jan Atkins Interior Design has been privileged to handle some high profile design projects in South Africa and neigbouring African States. |
In Johannesburg, these include the extensive refurbishment of the Country Club in Auckland Park, as well as the extended and renovated Golf Club at Woodmead. Other recently completed projects include Indigo Bay Resort Hotel (Phases 2 and 3) on Bazaruto Island, Mozambique, and high quality meeting, dining and office facilities for Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank in Dunkeld, Johannesburg.
The owner of the business, Jan Atkins says: "I love a challenge". Fresh out of Design College in 1989, Jan was given her first real break. A new hotel was being built in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Jan was approached to handle the interior design of the public areas. Over the years, Jan's involvement with the hotel has continued and various extensions and upgrades have turned it into a 350 bedroom hotel. Its superb position close to Sandton City and opposite the Stock Exchange, makes it sought after by both tourists and businessmen alike.
Says Jan: "As a designer, one must have the ability to interpret the client brief and relate this to the available budget. I love working to both a budget and a time constraint. Often the best ideas are born out of the necessity to make a fast decision. The result is often a more instinctive and truer reflection of the designer's intent. For this reason, I enjoy working on commercial and hospitality projects as the decision making process is usually driven by an impending completion date. You can be the best designer on earth, but if you can't produce the goods on time and within budget, the you have faild both yourself and your client"
We strive for a degree of comfort and non-pretentiousness in our interiors - believing that 'less is more'. Certainly design and decorating tends is the last years endorse this. We lean towards a combination of classical detailing and contemporary style - with comfort being high on the agenda".
Each project is individual as our client and we strive to achieve a balance between practical requirements, functionality and innovation. This coupled with classical influences, results in a timeless appeal which is the hallmark of our work.
Our company offers the full gamut of design and decorating services, ranging form conceptual design, design of custom-made fittings and furniture, carpet design as well as the specification and selection of soft furnishing and accessories.
